Tommoro Robotics and Rainbow Robotics collaborate on Physical AI robots

Tommoro Robotics is partnering with Rainbow Robotics to develop Physical AI robots that perceive their surroundings and carry out tasks autonomously in industrial environments.

On July 21, the companies signed an agreement for Physical AI robot research, development, and business cooperation at Rainbow Robotics’ headquarters in Sejong. The partnership combines Rainbow Robotics’ hardware and control technology with Tommoro Robotics’ robot foundation models and AI operations technology to build AI-native robots for real-world use.

Unlike conventional automation that repeats preprogrammed motions, AI-native robots perceive their environment and task state, determine the actions required, and perform multiple tasks in sequence. They can connect object recognition and picking with transportation, loading, sorting, inspection, and equipment operation in a single workflow.

Tommoro Robotics will contribute HABILIS Brain for perception, reasoning, and action generation; HABILIS Agent for planning and executing multiple tasks; and HABILIS Console for integrated management of data, models, and robot operations. Its responsibilities include task-scenario design, field-data collection, model training and deployment, robot-system integration, and the operational environment.

Rainbow Robotics will provide robot platforms and control interfaces, along with support for sensors, actuators, mechanical structures, control, and safety technology. Beginning with hardware and AI software integration, the companies plan to expand their collaboration into industrial pilots, operational reliability, complex-task automation, and joint customer development.

The first phase will establish core interfaces between robots and AI models and validate initial task capabilities. Subsequent trials in industrial or representative environments will assess task completion time, repeated-operation reliability, safety, fault handling, and ease of operation. Task data and failure-and-recovery experience gathered during these trials will feed back into training to continuously improve robot performance.

The companies will also explore commercialization through Workforce-as-a-Service (WaaS). Beyond selling robot equipment, this model combines robots, AI software, and operational systems to provide capabilities such as picking, transportation, sorting, and inspection as a service.
